ADVOCACY VISIT TO THE CHAIRMAN HOUSE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION

On April 25, 2024, the Albinism Association of Nigeria (AAN) embarked on a advocacy visit to the Chairman House Committee on Education. The purpose of this visit was to advocate for the advancement and implementation of the national policy on Albinism. The team from AAN was warmly received by the Chairman and members of the House Committee on Education. During the meeting, the team eloquently presented the challenges faced by individuals with albinism in Nigeria and the urgent need for comprehensive policy measures to address these issues. The Chairman who was represented by hi deputy and members of the committee in attendance demonstrated a commendable level of receptiveness and empathy towards the concerns raised by the AAN delegation. They actively listened to the presentations and engaged in constructive dialogue with the team, showcasing a genuine commitment to understanding and addressing the needs of persons with albinism in the country.
In a demonstration of solidarity and support, the Deputy Chairman and members of the committee pledged their full support towards ensuring the implementation of the National Policy on Albinism. They recognized the importance of inclusive policies that promote the rights and well-being of all citizens, including those with albinism.
Furthermore, the committee advised the AAN team to collaborate closely with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), acknowledging the agency’s commendable efforts in advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities. This strategic collaboration with NOA is seen as instrumental in raising awareness, fostering inclusivity, and driving positive change at the national level.
In conclusion, the visit by the Albinism Association of Nigeria to the House Committee on Education was a resounding success.
