 Abuja, Nigeria

The Albinism Association of Nigeria (AAN) has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive humanitarian action through active participation in the World Humanitarian Day Celebration organized by the United Nations Commission in Nigeria on August 19, 2025, at the UN House Auditorium, Abuja.

Representing AAN’s Executive Director, the Program Manager Mr Joseph participated fully during a high-level discussion on inclusive humanitarian action, where the unique vulnerabilities of persons with albinism during humanitarian crises and climate change-related disasters were brought to the forefront.

“World Humanitarian Day reminds us that humanitarian response must be inclusive and leave no one behind. Persons with albinism are often overlooked in disaster management planning, yet they face heightened risks during emergencies. We call on government agencies, humanitarian actors, and policymakers to integrate inclusive policies that specifically address the needs of persons with albinism,” said Joseph Akuse, Program Manager, Albinism Association of Nigeria.

AAN used the platform to advocate for:

  • Inclusive disaster management policies that consider persons with albinism.
  • Accessible emergency response systems tailored to vulnerable groups.
  • Data-driven planning to ensure equitable resource allocation during crises.

This engagement forms part of AAN’s broader commitment to influencing humanitarian and climate action policies in Nigeria, ensuring that persons with albinism are visible, protected, and included in all response frameworks.
