Abuja, Nigeria

The Albinism Association of Nigeria (AAN) has announced the successful participation of its Technical Team in the African Albinism Network (AfAN) Virtual Learning Forum (VLF) held online on August 27, 2025.

The forum, themed “Advancing the Rights of Persons with Albinism through Engagement with UN Human Rights Mechanisms,” provided a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and advocacy capacity building. Participants from across Africa explored practical ways to engage with United Nations Human Rights Mechanisms including Special Procedures, Universal Periodic Review (UPR), and Treaty Bodies to drive systemic change and protect the rights of persons with albinism globally.

“This engagement is a milestone for AAN as it strengthens our capacity to participate meaningfully in global human rights advocacy. The lessons learned will guide Nigeria’s contribution to the implementation of commitments made at the Global Disability Summit (GDS) 2025 and help us influence the global albinism agenda,” said Joe Akuse, the Program Manager, Albinism Association of Nigeria.

By participating in the VLF, AAN has reinforced its commitment to advancing inclusion, promoting human rights, and ensuring that persons with albinism in Nigeria are not left behind in the implementation of international and national disability commitments.
