AAN and NCPWD Distribute Life-Saving Assistive Materials to Persons with Albinism Across 27+ States in Nigeria

Abuja, Nigeria

The Albinism Association of Nigeria (AAN), in partnership with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), has successfully completed a nationwide dispatch and distribution of assistive materials including body creams, sunscreens (SPF), and assorted lotions to persons with albinism in over 27 states across Nigeria.

The initiative, carried out between August and September 2025, was coordinated by the AAN Project Team in collaboration with State Chairmen and NCPWD representatives. The teams worked diligently to mobilize beneficiaries, oversee distribution, and ensure transparent and equitable delivery of these essential materials.

“This intervention goes beyond skin protection; it restores dignity and enables persons with albinism to participate in education, livelihood activities, and community life without fear of sun-related health risks. We commend NCPWD for their partnership and reaffirm our commitment to sustaining this support nationwide,” said Dr. Mrs Bisi Bamishe, the Executive Director, Albinism Association of Nigeria.

This life-saving initiative has already yielded significant impact, improving skin care, reducing the risk of skin cancer, and enhancing the quality of life for thousands of beneficiaries. Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support and emphasized how such interventions empower them to pursue education and economic opportunities.

AAN has scheduled follow-up monitoring to assess the impact of the distribution exercise and gather data to inform future programming and policy advocacy for persons with albinism in Nigeria.
